An Intercepted Question

Q.  Dear Fool,

I was at a wine-tasting party and the host said that loud noises, loud music, and the confusion of children would spoil a wine.  It should be stored in a cool, dark, quiet place.  Can this possibly be true?  [Fixit, 10/20/2005]

     Dear Wine Freak,

Vibrations could cause damage.  However, it would take a lot of vibrations.  If you have Metallica actually playing in the same room you keep your wine in, well, it’ll probably all get drunk long before any damage is done.  Oh…and though I have no proof of this, it may be that having children leads to your wine tasting immature.  My only basis for this is empirical evidence; all the people I know with small children have terrible wine, though it is fun drinking wine from a sippy cup.
